Islamabad: Members of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights have demanded action on the non-appearance of CCPO Lahore in the motorway abuse case and have decided to issue summons.

According to Express News, the meeting of the committee started under the chairmanship of Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar in which the issue of rape of a woman on the motorway was discussed. Lahore CCPO Omar Sheikh was summoned on the issue but did not appear before the committee. The committee expressed frustration over the non-participation of CCPO Lahore in the meeting.

Chairman Committee Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that CCPOs are so influential that they are not accountable to Parliament. By not attending the committee meeting, he violated the privilege of the committee against which a motion would be brought.

The committee members demanded removal of CCPO Lahore and issuance of their summons. The chairman of the committee said that the committee would use its civil court powers against the CCPO. The CCPO's bail can also be confiscated. The committee is exercising this option for the first time in its history.

The responsibility was not ours, IG Motorway

IG Motorway Police Dr. Kaleem Imam appeared before the committee. He said that the case of rape of the woman did not occur on the motorway. The victim called the motorway helpline at 2 pm which was not an emergency call of the motorway police. We were not responsible for the security at the place where the rape took place.

Later, PML-N MPA Maryam Aurangzeb said that Gujjarpura police station comes under Lahore police. The committee wasted 45 minutes on setting the boundaries. Even there, the institutions remained entangled on the boundaries.

Faisal Wadwa's attempt to attend the meeting

Federal Minister Faisal Wada requested to attend the meeting of the Senate Committee on Human Rights as a member but the chairman of the committee refused to give permission due to the opposition of the members. The federal minister had to leave the committee room after opposition from members.
